The World's Largest Granny Square...Installment #5

Yes, loyal follower, the Granny Square that fell to earth, the Granny Square that ate Ellison Bay, is here and coming to theaters near you.  Bigger, growing-er, and surprisingly consistent.   Same  cheap Red Heart Yarn, same glorious locale (beach & cottage), same obsessive mentality and curiosity over the meaning of world record status.  And I must add, that for once, the thing does seem to be gaining proportions of unique size and status.
horizontal living--the merging of perfection: rest plus craft.

Lotta yarn for sandy beach.

Now that, friend, is a granny square--not to be confused with Granny Gear.
Let's just be happy that the outer chainring isn't called chick-me and the middle isn't called drafting and loving it.

People don't change, they just get more of what they already were.

Some of you might wonder why I continue this seemingly futile pursuit. Was in not uttered just this morning, by my loving spouse, that actually if there is a woman who has made a blanket that would cover a football field, why would I insist on my Granny Square?  Well, to those of us enamored with the pure aesthetic and kitschy charm of this eloquent, mathematical crochet form, it's a no-brainer.

And so to all those folks out there dedicated to the beauty of the Granny Square, I say, Yes!!!!! Let's do this!!!

The World's Largest Granny Square...it grows!!!!

The World's Largest Granny Square...it grows!!!! Oh, how I love a perfect day at the beach. Let me count the ways.  Joyce Carol Oates newest novel: Mudwoman, child playing in the water, swim to the barn & back, for me, and the absence of intense heat, bugs, and all that hype.  It doesn't get much better than this.
have crochet, have JCO, shade, water view, check!

OK, it's not as big as the largest AFGHAN, but Granny Square, for now we're making progress!

OK, ya'll time to unleash an agenda.
And it grows!!!!  But we might as well talk about something that matters, now that I've dragged you along this far.  Middle westerners take note. This is a bay in the Green Bay, of Lake Michigan.  See the water behind me?  I can personally attest to the drop in water level by the tune of 6 or more feet in our swimming area in the past 10 years.  Seriously!  So, when people start talking about losing freshwater in our incredible Great Lakes Area it is no joke.  So, summer fun aside, what can we do?  Pay attention, this matters, doesn't it?

The world's largest granny square...

...or...at least a gal can try! I may have brought my goddess-worthy halter and cover-up to work on, but heck! I'm in Door County and it's time to begin construction on the world's largest granny square, made with none other than cast-off red heart super saver! It's great fun being trapped in this web-dead-zone, so's I can happily work on my square without surfing around, looking for some other person's version of the largest granny square.  So. Here I sit, listening to my Door County CD's (indigo's old burns) and jigsaw puzzling and waiting for the sunset at Gill's Rock.  I'll save the insane Ironman training for another post. Needless to say...my legs are tired!
